More than 5000 acres were burnt, but a 6000+ square foot home was spared. Still, it lay downhill from a denuded forest causing frequent rock slides and flash flooding towards the home below, substantially reducing its value. (The fallen rocks are gathered in piles in the photo.)
Sometimes a fraudulent appraisal is done for an out-of-town lender. In the top left gallery image, the appraiser didn't note the fire damage and declared that the building would be fully occupied in one month.
